# How can I reduce the number of seats I'm paying for?

> Downgrade your seat count and understand what happens to credits and billing.

Juicebox accounts manage access through two distinct models:

1. **Seats** — licenses that permit platform use.
2. **Users** — individual accounts/recruiters with platform access via a seat.

The number of seats may exceed the number of users — for example, when you purchase additional seats to increase contact and export credits. To remove users rather than seats, see [How do I remove users from my workspace?](/help/account/remove-users)

## Before you reduce seats

1. **Cancel any pending workspace invitations** — they count toward your total seat count and will block downgrades.
2. **Remove active users to match your desired seat count** — the number of seats cannot be less than active users. Attempting to downgrade below your active user count will produce an error. See [removing users](/help/account/remove-users) for instructions.

## Steps to reduce seats

1. Click your name/organization in the bottom left corner.
2. Click **Account Settings**.
3. Click **Plan and Billing**.
4. Click **Modify Plan**.

A window will appear allowing you to reduce seats and update billing.

<Note>
  If you have a discount applied to your subscription, the system may prevent you from reducing seats through self-service. After removing unnecessary users and cancelling pending invitations, contact [support@juicebox.ai](mailto:support@juicebox.ai) to complete the reduction.
</Note>

## What happens when you remove a seat

* Seat changes take effect at your next billing cycle.
* Credits associated with removed seats remain available for use.
* No prorated refunds are offered when seats are removed.
* If you re-add a user later, their account data (saved filters and settings) will be preserved.
